Hi, I’m Shannon Young, owner and content creator of Number 8 Cooking, which is a shoutout to the genesis of Kiwi ingenuity.

New Zealand’s number 8 wire mentality is a testament to my country’s resourceful and inventive spirit. Originally a reference to the versatile fencing wire used in rural areas.

This mentality has extended beyond the agricultural and industrial sectors. It has become ingrained in my way of life, including in my kitchen.

My extensive training at Auckland University of Technology. My experience in esteemed restaurants, cafes, and hotels has honed my skills to perfection.

With over 20 years of experience in prestigious positions such as Head Chef, Executive Chef, or Group Chef, I’ve honed my skills and created unique and inventive dishes. My culinary knowledge and experience will help you whip up incredibly delicious meals for your loved ones.

In 2020, I decided to switch up the recipe of my life and venture beyond the culinary world. Little did I know that my love for ingredients, recipe creation, cooking, and writing. This would lead me to this exciting new chapter.

I’ve discovered a newfound passion for exploring the world of cuisine through the written word. Bringing the flavors and aromas of my favorite dishes into your kitchen.

Cooking remains an essential part of my life. As I love nothing more than whipping up delectable meals for my loved ones. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love to indulge in some delicious eats?

My culinary journey began at a young age. Inspired by my mother’s effortless grace in the kitchen and my grandfather’s seasoned culinary skills.

My grandfather was a seasoned chef, which only fueled my passion further. Inspired by their love for food, I’ve pushed the boundaries of traditional cooking.

Developing some ingenious and innovative ways of preparing dishes. That will leave your taste buds dancing with joy. Whether it’s whipping up a quick meal or tackling a complex recipe.

I’m always eager to experiment and refine my skills. To create dishes that are better, easier, and tastier. For me, cooking is an endless adventure.

With every dish I create. I aim to capture the essence of my culinary roots. While adding my unique twist to create a feast that will truly delight and satisfy.
